Live simply so that others could simply live.
-- Sister Marie Yeo
My my, this is what Brother Richard told me during supper last nite. =)
This phrase was made by a sister in Christ, a lady whom I think given where is she today, she is a successful lady in her career.
The moment I heard this quote from Bro. Richie, I was struck by the profound meaning within this 8-word phrase.
To me, I think this is a beautiful guiding principle and this is in sync with John the Baptist and our Lord Jesus' lives. I truly believe they were men with simple living at the time of their age.
In our age of increasing affluence, we tend to focus on more of the "the Contemporary Key Success Indicators" (like it or not, this is what I shall call them.. haha..) i.e. Car, Career, Credit Card, Club Membership, Condominium, Certificates.. and the list goes on..
During BH322 lecture on Thursday, Lecturer Jeffrey Kennedy mentioned this 5Cs/6Cs (types of "Cs" which Ace-loving people would not resist)...
Yes, Father God, I am guilty of this. God Father, please forgive me! =)
At this juncture, please don't get me wrong, I am not saying that we have to be frugal, we cant enjoy, we cant prosper! This is not biblical at all.
In Deuteronomy 28, God promises that He will bless His people with exceedingly abundance as we obey Him. Even in Jeremiah 29, God declares that He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. Hee..
See God doesn't say we can't prosper but as He enables us to prosper, we must remember to go back to the basics.
Who is the Giver of the gifts, Who is the Blessor of the blessings, Who is the Provider of our provisions?
What is our Priority?!
Upon hearing Sister Marie's phrase... I asked myself, what is the one important "C" I am lacking in my wish list of Cs.. Haha
I know that one most important "C" you and I will need before all other Cs is
CHRIST
Isn't it? =)
So what does Daniel got to say after beating around the bush.. haha..
Actually, my point is that yes.. we must enjoy the blessings, gifts and provisions with Thanksgiving to God, and at the same time, we must not forget the other people who may be emotionally, spiritually, materially poor. We must keep praying for these people to know the vitamin that could cure all forms of poverty and it's none other than Christ Jesus Himself! =)
As true disciples of Christ, I continue to be reminded to win over lost souls through prayers, evangelism like witnessing and living out a Christ-like life, share the joy of the Kingdom of God and keep them in prayer that the Lord has burdened me to pray for.
Brothers and Sisters, let's continue to enjoy God's blessings, but let us also constantly be reminded Who is that Gracious Blessor, Giver and Provider.
Let's strive to live simply (i.e. with contentment, good stewardship and with thanksgivings and praise to God) so that we could share with others through our tithes, offerings and even the grace and love that God has given to us in exceedingly abundance!

Simplicity is a key testimony of Quakerism. Did I tell you that I am a Quaker? We seek to live as simply as possible so that we can have more to give others in time, money and other resources.
For me I seek to practice simplicity in a number of ways. In my home I do not have a television or Internet access. This slows me down and frees my time and my mind to focus on writing letters, reading, prayer, cooking healthy food.
There is a traditional Shaker Hymn that goes...
'Tis a gift to be simple
'Tis a gift to be free
'Tis a gift to come down
Where we ought to be
And when we find ourselves
In that place just right
We will be in the valley
Of Love and delight.
When the true simplicity
Is gained
To bow and to bend
We shall not be ashamed
To turn and to turn it will
Be our delight
'Till by turning and turning we
Come 'round right.
I don't understand all the words myself, but the melody is so very sweet along with the first verse. I hope you get to hear the melody one day if you don't already know it.
